Can my stairs match my new floors?
Yes, and they should. We fit treads, risers and nosing in the same material and finish as the floor, so the staircase reads as part of the house rather than an afterthought. Where an exact plank match is not possible, we match species and stain and use a purpose-made nosing profile.
Can stairs be done as a floating floor?
No, and this matters. Stair treads must be bonded and mechanically fastened, never floated, because a floating tread moves underfoot and the nosing eventually works loose. Any installer proposing to float your stairs is cutting a corner that becomes a safety problem.
Do you handle stairs with carpet on them now?
Regularly. We strip the carpet, pad, tack strips and staples, then assess what is underneath. Builder-grade stringers are usually rough construction lumber not meant to be seen, so most carpeted staircases need new treads and risers rather than refinishing what is there.
Are there code requirements on stairs?
Yes, and they are the reason stair work is priced differently from floors. Riser heights have to stay consistent within a tight tolerance across the flight, nosing projection is regulated, and adding tread thickness changes the top and bottom riser. We account for that in the build rather than discovering it at the end.
